Opened in 1926 as Carter De Haven’s Music Box, the Fonda Theatre has been a cornerstone of Hollywood entertainment for nearly a century. Originally a legitimate stage theatre, it hosted a wide range of revues and productions, including the West Coast premiere of Chicago starring Clark Gable, and was part of a thriving theatre district during Hollywood’s golden era. In later decades, the venue became the Pix Theatre, premiering landmark films such as Jaws and Rocky, before eventually returning to its live performance roots.
Since its return to live performances, the historic venue has welcomed an extraordinary range of artists including Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Billie Eilish, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Katy Perry, Olivia Dean, Beastie Boys, Alabama Shakes, The xx, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Phoenix, Nick Cave, and many more. As The Fonda approaches its 100th anniversary, the theatre continues to celebrate its storied past while shaping the future of live music in Hollywood.
